Sound has for millennia been a tool for inner exploration. When we listen to the lilt of a mountain brook, or the rhythm of a human heart, sound provides us a pathway to the subtle energies in the deep reaches of our psyche. Sound transports us to consciousness states where we encounter insight, healing, growth, and our highest creativity.

Vantage Quest uses sound in a very unique way.  It is a hand crafted chord that is edited in our proprietary method to create a psychoacoustic immersion field.  When you listen using a pair of headphones, the neural firings in your brain synchronize with the sounds on the CD.  This is called the frequency following effect.  This effect can be generated with light (photic driving) or with sound (auditory driving).  These two methods are the basis of every mind machine, entrainment tape, or light sound device on the market.  Most of the auditory drivers use binaural or phantom beats.  That is, a beat frequency that your brain synthesizes as it tries to resolve two mistuned tones fed to opposite ears.

So what makes Vantage Quest different?

Causing the brain to try to resolve two frequencies that are out of tune does work, but we feel it is like forcing the brain to go into distortion in order to achieve clarity.  We took a different approach.  The frequencies on all the VQ CDs are exactly the same to both ears but they are edited by hand to transpose them into brainwave frequencies that span from delta, through theta, alpha, and up to mid-beta.  They are then mixed in different proportions for the two hemispheres of the brain to counter each hemisphere's predilection towards logical or spatial operations.  Thus, both sides come into balance with each other.  Also, because we entrain a harmonic matrix of frequencies across the spectrum, the brains "background noise" falls into consonant activity with the deep theta states that form the heart of the matrix.  Synthesizing scientific research, ancient traditions, and modern technology, no other device, or process offers this level of clarity and potency in your sound experience.

Vantage Quest results from several years of thought, personal exploration, and research.  This page is a personal historical narrative of who we have been, and who we are now as a company.

The Beginnings:

Carlisle Bergquist and Steve Livingston met in Hermosa Beach, CA  in 1970.  Carlisle was a songwriter and performing artist, Steve a Music Editor and composer working on several television shows.  Both had an interest in extending human potential, altered states of consciousness, and mysticism.  They begin conversations about the effects of music on human consciousness and how it could be used more effectively.  A central topic of discussion was using light "like music" in synchronization with sound frequencies.  The initial design was for a device that could be played in key along with other musical instruments to fill an auditorium with potent colored light.  This was long before the advent of the contemporary light/sound devices available today to consumers.  Unfortunately the cost was so great with the technology available at the time, it could not be constructed.

The Evolution:

Through the 70s Carlisle and Steve worked on various creative projects.  Steve continued editing music for television and film, while Carlisle continued to write, perform, and became a partner in The Silvery Moon Studios and SuiteWinds Productions companies. During this time, Carlisle studied the text of spiritual traditions, developed a meditation practice, and explored many of the positive esoteric traditions until in the 80s he decided to return to graduate school in the field of Transpersonal Psychology which would allow him to deepen his knowledge in an academic setting and find a means to put it into service. He is now a licensed therapist with many years of experience.  

Steve remained in Hollywood sharpening his skills and is highly regarded in the television and film industry for his work with music and sound.  He developed a friendship, and close working relationship with Angel Balestier owner Group VI Recording and ALB Productions.

The Result:

In 1992 Carlisle and Steve begin discussing the idea of light sound and the brain again while sitting in the guesthouse at SkyWalker Ranch in Northern CA where Steve was working on a film.  Carlisle was doing preliminary work on an idea for polyphonic biofeedback and in the course of the conversation, Vantage Quest was born. Instead of biofeedback, Vantage Quest would use polyphonic sound as an auditory driver to, in essence, be "biofeed-forward." The rest of the story was hundred of hours in Angel's studio as they developed the method of converting sound signals down to the EEG frequencies and, solved the technical problems of recording and mixing such a complicated signal.

Carlisle now continues Vantage Quest alone, grateful for the input of Steve and Angel.  We hope you enjoy the results of all their work.

I cannot congratulate you enough for Vantage Quest's soundtrack! I am into meditation and techno spiritual tools for over 16 years; have used light and sound mind machines, Cranial Electro Stimulation units, binaural beat generators and several binaural beat soundtracks along with other psychoacoustic sound patterns, well none of them reach your sound technology. Vantage Quest CD is THE MOST POWERFUL SPIRITUAL TOOL I have ever tried, thus far! It leads the mind into ultra deep, profound altered states and brings substantial and vivid psycho somatic changes in a rapid and very easy way. It is the ultimate cyber shamanic "sound sacrament"! If it's ok I would like to share with other friends about the book it's really wonderful once you pick it up you have to read on. But, most of all it has really helped me with the mediation CD. It has been a pleasure to have received a copy of your book and the CD~ I have to tell you the first time that I listened to it I was out with in a few minutes of listening to what it said. Then I went back and listened to it the next night, and I had some wonderful experiences, I had to have surgery on the 28th of April, so I needed all the calming that I could get my hands on, I have to thank you a million for giving me these two wonderful and beautiful gifts.

Dear Carlisle:

The last 20 pages of your wonderful book (The Coyote' Oak:  Burgeoning Wisdom) was read through tear-filled eyes. I couldn't tell if it was because I knew the ending of the book was near or if all of the material throughout the book had all come together at once and I could spiritually and wholeheartedly relate.

So far, you and Richard Bach touch my heart and soul. I can escape into your adventures and have faith that I am not the only one who "Knows".

We were wasting time in Spartinburg because I was supposed to pick up a team member from the airport. We had an hour to float. We went to a chain bookstore so I could search for a brainwave series type cd or cd's. As usual, we chose the most "vibrational" person working there to help us. As we all connected through short conversation, he directed us to your book being that we have never heard of you. Wouldn't ya know....the last one on the shelf (a sure sign). I immediately purchased it.

Thank you so much for reminding me to keep Faith in the ever-loving Universe and be proud of who and what I am on this Earth.
