October 1997
Hello Creators;
The Hundredth Monkey or Critical Mass:
There is a story, with which many of you are probably familiar,
about a behavior change in isolated colonies of monkeys living on several islands.
One female was observed taking her food down to the ocean and dipping it in salt water
before she ate it. This was not previously done by the species. She soon taught the
behavior to other members of her colony. Those that washed their food in salt water
slowly grew in number as the technique was learned by new individuals. Then one day
an inexplicable shift took place. Without time for each member to have learned it
individually, suddenly the entire colony washed their food as the first female had.
Even more mystifying was the fact that the same behavior was now observed in other
colonies of the same species living on that island, and on other islands which had no
physical contact with the original colony. The consciousness of the species
expressed in this behavior had changed collectively. When critical mass was reached,
change occurred spontaneously.
This month several interesting things occurred with Vantage Quest
and the site that reminded me of this story and reaching critical mass. I would like
to share a couple with you.
First.
A few of days ago Abe Thomas who helped market Vantage Quest when
we first started, sent me a letter he had received from a friend in Australia. Abe
had sent a CD to them earlier and the letter was her reply. In it she indicated she
had heard the CD before. The sound of VQ is pretty recognizable. A healer
friend had used it as he worked on her though she had not known the name of the tape. (VQ
was sold on tape briefly before the CD). She was even more amazed to find her friend
Abe listed in the credits. Not only is this an interesting syncronicity, I think it a
great way to use VQ's Harmonic Matrix to open the consciousness of the healer, and the
healed to the act or Re-Creation.
Second.
This month many people have told me in their comments that a
friend told them about us. I've also noticed that many of the articles and our main
page have been listed in other people's favorite links. Also, someone (not me
really), was kind enough to add us to the Sweepstakes Online database. This addition
brought lots of new visitors to our site and lots of entries in our drawing in just a few
days. Welcome all of you.
Thank You All!
Creating is an act of sharing. Many of you have shared your thoughts with me in your
comments. I would like to share a few observations and some of their excellent
comments. What struck me was how many people described themselves something like
this..."me...creative? Not that I can tell." I think this points to
one of the real problems in our educational system. We are all to often thought to
stifle our natural creative tendency at a very young age when we enter school. Later we
must struggle to regain it. George Bon's guest book comment about how he creates,
"while playing with my violin and learning to play things I was supposed to play as a
child," reminded me again of how often we are forced to go back and rediscover the
things we were not inspired to pursue as a child. I found hope in the words of several
aware teachers who took the time to comment.
Lyn Misserville, an Elementary Teacher, said: "I try
to make learning fun. If my students enjoy doing tasks they usually don't mind
learning different things."
Tony Anderson, also has the bright idea. she creates by "helping children
see the best in themselves, BEING POSITIVE."
Mrs. Debra Huffman, a homemaker and Registered Nurse, contribute, "I create garments
for my children to wear." Ms. Sari Bloom says, "In my cooking
processes." Another Nurse, Ms. Sherry Pincus adds, "when I convince a
suicidal patient not to kill them self." To each of you, "Here's to Life"
and your contribution! There were so many wonderful comments this month and kind words
about our site, I wish I could include the all. Thank you all!
As Bonnie Ratt said, "Lets give em something to talk about." I have wanted
to provide an interactive forum for sometime so you could share ideas with one
another. I am pleased to announce a small step in that direction. You will
find a button on our site now that says "Assembly." This will take you to a
Bulletin Board located on the NerdWorld Search site, but accessible only to you called,
The VQ Assembly or, "Experiencing Vantage Quest." The direct url is
http://assembly.nerdworld.com/index.cgi?Assembly=VQ.ASSEMBLY
You will have to complete a short form there that will give you a password so you can post
messages. Please use this forum in the following ways. Post an experience you've had
using VQ that you would like to share with others or get comments on. Ask a question
about an experience you've had, or reply to someone else's. Tell this group about
creative accomplishments and projects your working on. This feature will be as
popular, and as useful, as YOU make it. You've all had the chance to read my
thoughts, now it time to share some of yours. I am privileged to know just how diverse and
special this group is. You have much to offer each other.
Finally, there are a lot of writers and thinkers among this group. I repeat my
invitation to you who might like to post an article related to creativity, spirituality,
or Transpersonal Psychology in "Thoughts Beneath The Trees". Lots of
people are reading these articles and I would love to share the space with like minded
authors. Please contact me if your interested.
Well another "approximately monthly" newsletter, and
another Winner in our drawing.
This months winner is:
Mr. Tom Colwell
Valley Village, Calif.
Congratulations Tom! It will be sent out to you today.
Newsletter administration;
I still do this the old fashioned way - by hand - so I am learning as I go. This
list has grown dramatically in the last two months so I apologize if you get two copies
of, or if you don't want to receive our newsletter. Just send me a note and I will
groom the list. As I've said, I want to build a community of creative folks, not
make "email enemies." For those who don't know, I hold a drawing from the
previous months Guest Book entries about the 1st. of each month. The winner receives
a free copy of our latest release. YES, you can enter again each month, and many of
your have, but ONCE only. Please let me know in the comments that your already on this
mailing so I don't send you multiple copies of this newsletter.
I am sending this out in small batches today and tomorrow on two different mail hosts, so
I don't overload our ISP. Please make any reply to carlisle@vantagequest.org. Someday I will
get this all consolidated but till then...we'll work around the problems.
That's it for this month folks. Thanks for you interest and 'till next month....
"Why not do some dreamin, you're not afraid to try."
With warm regard,
Carlisle
