Audio Tape:

The signal on Vantage Quest is so complex that it would require "real-time transfer" to cassette tape to produce.  The result would be cassettes that cost more than the CD.  Customers who wish a cassette may purchase the CD and make a cassette copy for their own use with good result.

Hemisync, Holosync, Brain Sync, and Mindsync compared to VQ:

Hemi-Sync, developed by Robert Monroe, uses binaural beats to produce the frequency following effect.  Also, though they have expanded, their system was developed to help user have the "out of body" experiences Monroe wrote about. They are fine products.

Holosync for Centerpointe Research is basically another version of Hemi-Sync in that it also uses the same binaural method to induce entrainment.  Centerpointe has marketed dozens of tapes with different guided imagery over the signal which allegedly makes it useful for different purposes.  Again, they are high quality products.  We don't say this makes your "brain tune it out," quite the opposite.  It is the binaural signal that is deliberately "out of tune" your brain attempts to "tune in" that produces the effect.  More latter on this.

Vantage Quest differs from these products in several important ways:

1. The signal is not binaural. VQ is 32 highly synchronized, precise frequencies fed simultaneously to both brain hemispheres.
   
   
2. Vantage Quest is intended to allow the user to direct their experience.  Thus, though centered in creativity, it is adaptable to many uses. 
   
   
3. VQ does not "continually move the brain through different stages."  VQ's frequencies are all simultaneously present throughout the listening experience.  The dominance of various signals is changed in the mix to help the user move from normal consciousness into deep altered states, and back again.  The broad chord of frequencies is intended to help synchronize the "background noise" of activity that remains present in EEG activity even when one "state" is dominant.  This, creates greater clarity than with other products.

Binaural Beat:

We don't question that binaural beats produce a shift in consciousness, nor do we deny that the brain entrains its EEG activity to the phantom beat.  We do question whether this method induces an optimal experience.  Further, nearly all products of this type use binaural beat.  One is pretty much the same as the next despite product claims and different stated purposes.  We wanted to try something different and potentially more effective.

Binaural beat works by playing a frequency into one ear and a second frequency into the other ear that is different by a few cycles per second.  If you heard these two signals together they would clash and you would say they are "out of tune."  However, when heard as isolated signals in separate ears it produces another effect.  The brain attempts to resolve the mis-tuned signals and produces and imaginary "phantom," the binaural beat.  Tricking the brain with distortion in this manner is not a logical means to achieve a clear useful deep state of consciousness in our opinion.  Thus, we chose a more natural approach - harmonics.

Insomnia:

Light / Sound Devices:

Most L/S devices run a preset pattern of flashes to produce entrainment.  Some include music or audio signals synchronized with the flashes.  

A few devices are able to trigger the light stimuli off other auditory signals.  An extremely accurate device such as this may work with Vantage Quest.

However, we suggest that you use the two methods separately.  In most cases, the stimuli from the L/S device, and that of Vantage Quest will not be synchronized due to the complexity of VQ's signal.  The result will be that the brain will attempt to entrain both of the differing  stimuli at the same time thus diminishing, or eliminating, any positive affect from ether.

If you wish to use both, we suggest that you alternate periods of use between the two methods.  Perhaps one week with one, and then a week with the other.  Let you experience be your guide.

Self-Hypnosis

Self-hypnosis does require mastery.  While its sounds easy, most of us forget that the suggestions we give are self during our inner self-talk are also extremely powerful.  Thus, we give ourselves positive suggestions during self-hypnosis, and counter them with negative suggestions as we worry.

Vantage Quest can effectively induce a deep state of consciousness that is receptive to suggestion.  Thus, when using VQ it is important to hold positive thoughts whether or not you are practicing self-hypnosis.  Simple positive self statements work best.  If a negative thought pops into mind, simply observe it and let it pass. This process should also be used for negative thoughts in normal consciousness.

The combination of positive suggestions in a highly receptive state with the diminution and dismissal of negative thoughts without self blame will be most effective.

Astral Projection:

Astral projection, or OBEs, require additional skills Vantage Quest does not teach.  VQ's deep relaxation state is an effective induction for such experience, but one must then master a few more elements.  Robert Monroe's books on the subject are the best source for this information.

Vantage Quest is a result of Carlisle Bergquist's doctoral dissertation research.  Unlike the many tapes and CD's on the market it did not come into being with corporate backing, a staff of marketers, a budget with deep pockets.  Quite simply, it exists because people found it useful.  Our task after the fact has been to try to expand upon it using the "grass roots" methods available, and affordable to us.  It is entirely self sustaining.

12 matrixes were created based on different areas of the theta range.  The remaining 11 prototypes have been held back from release based upon closer examination of the waveforms.  While these prototype mixes worked well, the waveforms lacked the same synchronization found in VQ VI due to methods in the recording process.  Such synchronization is required to deliver a product with the same quality and effectiveness present in Vantage Quest VI.  Thus, Carlisle decided to redo the remaining 11 rather than release an inferior product.

It will takes some time before we will be able to make and release the remaining CD.  By signing our guest book you will be informed of all releases as they occur.  We expect to release more of the series in winter 2007 to 2008
